Proposed Bus Network Changes

The South Rotherham and Sheffield Bus Vision is being developed by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive in partnership with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and with Sheffield City Council and they would like to hear views from local residents, businesses and the travelling public about their specific proposals.

Their main aim is to improve access to jobs, schools, hospitals and leisure activities to cope with the growing demand created by future investment and new job opportunities. Their plans also include introducing a simplified ‘smartcard’ fare system across the network.

They say that these new developments will enable bus services to run across South Rotherham and Sheffield more efficiently, making bus travel a much more attractive, accessible and more enjoyable experience for everyone.

They want to ensure that they get these measures right, and would like to give you the opportunity to have your say. Please visit www.busvision.co.uk to find out more about:

  • Background information to the scheme.
  • Details of proposed new bus services and routes.
  • Opportunities to have your say on the vision.
  • Further ways to contact them and keep up-to-date on the development of the vision.

Police Clamp Down on Off-Road Bikes

Please see below for an update from the Woodhouse & Mosborough Safer Neighbourhood Team on what action has been taken this month to target off road bikers. Our local officers PC Simon Kirkham and PCSO Lois Parkes were involved in the operation:

 An operation was run 13/14/15 August 2010 to specifically target nuisance motorbikes. This involved staff from Woodhouse and Mosborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, the SYP off-road bike team and the helicopter attended when they could in between other incidents running. There was specific aims to the operation to answer any nuisance motorbike calls but also to seize bikes from previously identified offenders. The off-road team were also tasked to attend at the addresses of previous offenders to re-inforce the message that the anti social use of bikes will not be tolerated.

Results include:

Arrests x 1 for Public Order Offence(Handsworth).
Seizures (172) x 3 bikes/quads (Handsworth/Hackenthorpe/Halfway)
Warnings(171) x 3 (Handsworth/ Halfway/Owlthorpe)
FPN for riding on land other than a road x 2 (Owlthorpe/Hackenthorpe)
Acceptable Behaviour Contracts signed x 3
Off Road Information Packs x 7 delivered by SYP off-road teams
Identified SNA areas for nuisance bikes patrolled x 8
Incidents attended x 7 (Prompt 60 motorcycle nuisance)
Total fines imposed- £510
Housing referral x1
Social services x1

Comments about the operation/ nuisance motorbikes on the SNA;

A local resident of Woodhouse who regularly visit the allotments said;
"I'm down here most days at least six times a day. It used to be bad but I've not seen a bike for days and certainly not in packs any more since before Summer. What you are doing is working"

Off-road biker officer stated;
"We delivered 7 information packs to the top target nominals for the PACT area. Most were OK about it. Our presence on off roaders was really impactive. Quite a crowd came out at Edenthorpe Dell and at Badger Rise and we were able to spread the message about illegal motorcycling and show them the capability we have. Most were suprised we were out and about. The message seemed to sink in".

Further patrols are planned with Great Places teams working with PC Kirkham and PCSO Parkes utilising the Long Range Camera facility and Night Vision Equipment as the nights draw in. PC Kirkham and PCSO Parkes also utilise Thermal Imaging Equipment on patrol in Richmond and the surrounding area. A number of interesting 'Heat Signatures' have been discovered in recent weeks.

One of the quads seized was as a result of an earlier joint Police/ Great Places patrol conducted earlier this year leading to an arrest and seizure of quad bike for repeatedly riding on the the Richmond Park Estate. Calls to Great Places initiated a quick Police response and the offender was caught on Long Range Camera by PC Kirkham as he passed from a distance with a patrol car. This formed the basis of the evidence required for the seizure of the vehicle and stands as a great example of community, business and Police partnership working.

Great Places have supported a poster campaign being piloted at local petrol stations to address fuel supplies for illegal motorcycling. The campaign being trialled in Handsworth has been discussed at a senior level by several national fuel suppliers. See a copy of the poster by clicking here.

If you have any information about people using nuisance bikes in your area please ring 0114 2963779. Information will be treated in confidence but will enable us to better target our efforts to improve your community.
